This week our podcast is a LIVE performance by Future Universal’s DJ KidHack from California Academy of Science’s Nightlife event (at which I had the great fortune to play again the other week) and it is a whopper of Tropical Bass delight.

What is “Tropical Bass” you ask? Why, how fortunate it is for the uninitiated that we have such an excellent example RIGHT HERE. Nocturnal, misty, and tribal, be warned that it’ll probably give your spirit panther boners.

If you dig the sweaty vibes and don’t mind the mosquitos, check out KidHack’s home on these here internets for tons more music.

DJ Cor - A Dip in the Deep End (2000)

And now for something completely different.

Thanks to the new blood here on the Beatery, we’ve experienced a recent influx of some great progressive and drum and bass music. And while it’s a wonderful and refreshing change of pace, it has also has left me itching to get some good ol’ house music up here. Enough so that I went back and dug up a old set that even I hadn’t heard in nearly a decade.

I recorded this one while living in the deep house epicenter known as San Jose. It’s just a casual swim through some waters I don’t normally tread. I just wanted to get a few songs out of my system that I couldn’t fit anywhere else, and then I didn’t really circulate the mix to anyone. I suppose you could call this a DJ Cor rarity. It’s fun to hear it again. Really marks a moment in my early DJ “career.”

Booka Shade - More!

Hey, remember Booka Shade? Well, they have a new album. It’s pretty much what you would expect from them (chilled-out tech house), but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Movements blew up for a reason, after all. These tracks below don’t really bring anything new to the table but they do remind us that these guys can craft some damn good hooks.

This Friday we have producer/DJ extraordinaire Chris Lee (aka Limaçon). After turning out a few 12″s on some excellent Techno labels (Poker FlatResopal Schallware, and Force Inc to name a few) he’s finally dropped his first full length album. Titled Tarry Not, its meticulous, ever evolving tech-y sounds have been blipping on all sorts of radars; he’s scored endorsements from Techno luminaries like Richie Hawtin and Maetrik, interviews up the wazoo, and even an album of the week nod on Beatport.com. What’s more, in addition to being a passionate sonic craftsman, he happens to be a friend to some of our readership as well and has graciously allowed us to serve his Tarry Not promo mix as this week’s podcast.

Hit the jump for the tracklist, audio, and an intro from the man himself.

This week’s podcast comes to us courtesy of Brent Northey, a friend I met hanging with the kids down at Mars Bar. He’s the dude who donated that awesome Garth set we posted a few weeks ago.  Today he’s hooked us up with a super-sized set of classic house… the kind you don’t hear so often these days. For all the veteran house-heads, this funkin’ set is sure to bring you back. Thanks again, Brent. - Cor

The mainstream music scene is always important but often times you want something new. San Francisco underground parties were that moment for me in the early 90’s. From Slayer to Mark Farina I have always loved music, I really don’t care who, where or how.  I simply care about the intelligence and creativity that goes into an album, mix or any other expression of music that provides a real time experience that can be heard and felt.  Born in Concord, I made my way into San Francisco to enjoy many of the different genres available from the underground tree. I met friends with the same interests and my passion spiraled out of control. From 1991, in warehouses on Army Street till now… I love electronic music and all that it brings to my life, friends and family. The following mix was recorded on a cruise ship 15 miles off the coast of California, San Luis Obispo.  Enjoy!
