Below is a live DJ set from Beatery favorite Zodiac Cartel, shamelessly reposted from his Soundcloud page. It’s full of the techy, funky, sloppy-clap goodness we’ve all come to expect from the man. If you’re a regular Beatery listener, you’ll surly recognize more than a few of the jams in this epic two-hour tech-funk throwdown. Enjoy.
This week our podcast is a LIVE performance by Future Universal’s DJ KidHack from California Academy of Science’s Nightlife event (at which I had the great fortune to play again the other week) and it is a whopper of Tropical Bass delight.
What is “Tropical Bass” you ask? Why, how fortunate it is for the uninitiated that we have such an excellent example RIGHT HERE. Nocturnal, misty, and tribal, be warned that it’ll probably give your spirit panther boners.
If you dig the sweaty vibes and don’t mind the mosquitos, check out KidHack’s home on these here internets for tons more music.
Well folks, after a year year of living down here I’m on my way out of Bolivia. After some travels to Argentina and Brazil I’ll be back in the Bay around mid August. I just can not believe a year has gone by already, they just seem to fly by these days. And maybe not coincidentally this year has been chalk full of fantastic new experiences: new language, new food, new friends, new culture, a new love, new job, and maybe most relevant here, new music.
In “Bolivi’n It Up”* I tried to combine the music I’ve been playing down here, more easily accessible edm and pop-remixes, with the general vibe of living in La Paz: fast paced, energetic, a bit dirty and a lot of fun! We start of in a Bolivian bus station and just let the vibe flow from there. I thinks it’s a healthy fusion of styles, not veering too far into pop nor too deep into hard electro, and many of the tracks are pulled straight from my sets over the past year.
* Mad props out to my homie Bun Chan in Japan for inspiring that title. When are we gonna get you on the podcast Bun Chan??
If you enjoy the set half as much as I’ve enjoyed living in Bolivia I’ll have done something rite. Thanks for listening, and all my peoples in the Bay, I’ll see you soon!
Hey, remember Booka Shade? Well, they have a new album. It’s pretty much what you would expect from them (chilled-out tech house), but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Movements blew up for a reason, after all. These tracks below don’t really bring anything new to the table but they do remind us that these guys can craft some damn good hooks.
Hoooola!

What’s up my English speaking peeps? What’s this, three posts in a row? I’m on fire! That or I’m just really neglecting the rest of my life… Hummm, let’s just move on. I’m gonna be playing live again at the “Techno Football Tour”, this time in Cochabamba. You know the drill, I’ve got so hot new tracks in the cue to potentially play live, and as always I’d love to get some feedback from you Brilliant Listeners!
We’ve got a heavy house lean to the tracks this time. I should be playing later in the night so there are more bangers in here too. Listen, vote, interact! I’ll play the winner for sure, and hopefully I can get the recording rite this time and share the results with all of you!

“Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” producer Fredde Le Grand is back with “Back And Forth”. Catchy raps and electro-minimal production help lead this track tops of my “to play live” list.
The American in Paris Uffie (rapper/vocalist/indi dance/electro artist/hottie) enlists Pharrel Williams on this hip hop/EDM crossover track over which AvH lays a thick house gloss. I love the vocals and the raps, but is it too housy? You tell me.
Man, what can you say about Crookers? The latest in their running string of incredibly produced, refreshingly different singles “Royal T” is a track they did with help from Roisin Murphy and Riva Starr. The blaring house diva rides the line, but is kept in check nicely and ultimately sounds rather hypnotic over the bouncing bass line.
Tech house is reaaaaly big down here when you get away from the pop and rage tone, so this nice little Tim Deluxe track just might get played. Love the almost Portuguese sounding vocals.
And finally some electro house goodness. What’s that they say? Imitation is the highest form flattery? Well Wolfgang Gartner, consider yourself some flattered.
