HAPPY 2010!

Beat Du Jour, Bonus Beats, Breaks, Singles

Holla! Hopefully everyone had an exciting weekend, but it’s now finally Monday, and we’ve reached the far side of the long weekend. Time to get down to business!

Starting out a new year (and decade!) as a music writer is a fun time because it feels so full of possibilities. Who’s going to blow up huge? What’s the next new hot sound going to be? Who’s gonna tank and fade away? While we have plenty of ideas for future topics along these lines, we actually lost sight of today somewhat (d’oh!). It didn’t seem right to let the first Monday of the year go by without something, so I’m just going to throw up a quick video of a track that was getting me excited in the last days of December.

Skream started out as one of the original shining stars of the Dubstep scene, before there was even much of a scene to speak of. Here however he steps way outside the box to drop a driving, blippy, bassy, breakbeat monster. It’s full of energy and optimism and feels like a good way to kick off the new year.

Another reason I like this track is because it reminds me a bit of the old days when records could be really hard to find. This is an edit of the track from a UK radio show that someone recorded, and it’s been heard out at parties, but there is nary an mp3 or 12″ in existence which makes it more mysterious and desirable. It should have a proper release sometime this year, but this leak is good enough for now.

In any case, enjoy!

Yay Matt! First post, and I would say the best of the year. The track was educational, and not too painful ;)
