SYTYCB Winners!
So You Think You Can BUMP?, We're just sayin'...
The polls have closed, the votes tallied up and its finally time to present the The Beatery’s top five dance music producers of the 00’s! You’ve heard all the tracks and read a bajillion words about these guys so I’ll keep this short, but just in case I linked back to their respective STYTYCB posts. We’ll count down from five to one.
Drum roll please…

#5 - deadmau5
It seems deadmau5 overcame his late entry to the decade with his ridiculous flurry of hits. Can he keep up this pace in the 10’s? It will be interesting to see… For the record dadmau5 did get one of my prized three votes.

#3 - Two way tie - Justice & Krafty Kuts
No surprise to see Justice among the top three, but I didn’t think Krafty would get that kind of support. To further his case Krafty just dropped a new album of remixes “Krafty Kuts Re-Rubs” in December. You can check it out here but we’ll give it a full post coming up sometime soon.

#2 - Plump DJs
I’m actually quite surprised they didn’t take the crown, with their straight 5s and all. They too got one of my votes.

#1 - Daft Punk
And the French House meaga stars take the top slot! Are they really deserving without “Homework” included? I’m not so sure as my final vote went to Sasha (who tied for sixth with Modeselektor). You?
So there we have it. A nice list, really. We got some house, some electro, some breaks, some funky stuff, some techy stuff, some proggy stuff and even a bit if trance! Nice job Readers. Here are the full results:
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. What do you think? Any surprises? I was really blown away at the lack of suport for Stanton Wariors, who seem to be a favorite among our readers. Maybe it’s because the Plumps are just better producers and stole all the break beat votes?
My biggest disappointment was Sasha not making the top 5. Ohhh well, there’s always next decade. Speaking of which, who do you think will still be around for the running in 2020?
Thanks again to all of our voters! I hope you enjoyed our long, meandering trip through the decade in dance.

yay the results! i too wish that stanton warriors and sasha were up there at the top. since we could only vote for three and i stupidly wrote in AVB i didn’t vote for the warriors even tho i love them (i thought others would pull them through). i however think daft punk is deserving of the crown even without homework which i will say again, is not their best album! ha. this entire SYTYCB grouping was a great feature of the beatery-i’m looking forward to 2010!
while my vote for krafty kuts was called into question by at least one beater-eader, i stand behind it (and clearly others do as well - what a nice surprise!). a fun take on the hip hop genre, sick scratching skills, and hard-thumping dj mixes makes krafty kuts a time-tested fav.
p.s. - i love you b, but you’re just plain wrong about homework.
and i love daft punk too, but i feel the top spot should have gone to the plumps.
I would have voted for Daft Punk, Stanton Warriors and James Holden. Daft Punk deserves that place not by a downward graph since Homework but by reaching new highs with every album:)
Hahaha, yeah b it was so hard for me to only vote for three also. Maybe everyone thought that SWs would be covered so they voted for others. And c- I really think that a case can me made for all 15, so there really were no bad choices.
@ Talha: “would have voted for…”? What happened?
Yeah Beatery! Thanks for a ton of good music and beat-u-cation last year. This site is one of the few things that I don’t hate from 2009! The Bump series was entertaining and fun, can we do it again?
First off I love Stanton Warriors and their shows are fun but I didn’t vote for them because they are bubblegum breaks. They are like a James Cameron Blockbuster… they are fun and all but when you get right down to it you have seen the movie already it is just blue now and in 3D.
As for Daft Punk and the lack of Homework well we all know Homework is the best album they have made to date but to continue the movie metaphor. Sometimes you need to give the Oscar to the actor who had been robbed in the past. Like Morgan Freeman for Million Dollar Baby when we all know he should have gotten it for Driving Miss Daisy or The Shawshank Redemption. I don’t seem to recall Daft Punk getting The Beatery’s SYTYCB award last decade maybe they deserved it.
I think Daft Punk DID get the preemptive SYTYCB award last decade in the form of Jay and I bumping the hell out of Homework every night in the College 8 dining hall in Santa Cruz.
I’m pretty satisfied with the results… The Plump getting some much-deserved recognition, Justice managing to to place on the strength of one album, and seeing Krafty up there is a nice surprise.
And sure Damien, we can do it again. Stayed tuned, because coming up in 2019 we’ll be kicking off our second decade of SYTYCB! Let the contest begin!
Nice! I thought the mau5 would be higher. I still think Justice are rather overrated, gotta see of they can keep it going.
Daft Punk are great live but their latest studio album was really flat. Haven’t see the Plumps live yet (BOOOOO) so not sure how they compare. Someone just told me they sucked live, but I’ve heard great things from others about their live sets.
But holy shits guys, there was a major omission!!! How could Bassnectar not have been in the top 5, let alone in the running?!? He is so EPIC! And flawless live…
bassnectar? ryan, you are dead to me.
Hey, I didn’t even get started on the lack of Dub Step producers in this contest! seriously, wtf?? I love that robot taking a nice slow dump all over the dance floor sound!
frack, somehow I missed the write in bit…woulda put down Sander Van Doorn…
Doorn was heavily considered, maybe I should have passed that post off to you!
