I always thought Norweigians were pleasant, mild mannered folk, but if you listen to the music of production duo Rawthang, they’re fulla some serious fuel too.

This is a DnB release I stubled upon years ago when it was first released on Orgone Records (a sublabel of previously covered DJ Dara’s Breakbeat Science powerhouse), and I haven’t been able to forget it since.

Both cuts are pretty driving, wih some searing production work.
Unity is 100 percent full on ravey, with a nu-Hoover inspired lead and some piano work that could find it’s way into a Happy Hardcore tune…minus the happy!
B-side Netrunner (my fave) is full on cyberpunk - deep wet-as-frack bass stabs, and skittter lines to make you feel like you’re INSIDE THE MACHINE…

Check em out:

Sadly, Rawthang have almost NO internet presence, but you can find their other releases listed on their discography. Some may have been vinyl-only, as I believe this one is too - so these are rare gems!

Unexpected Beauty

Ambient, We're just sayin'...2 Comments

Below is a 36-minute piece of ambient music. If you asked me to describe it after hearing for the first time, I’d likely use the words ethereal, watery, haunting… adjectives that bear no resemblance to the ones I’d use to describe the piece’s original source. Give the track a listen, enough to experience its lulls and swells (go ahead and skip around if you don’t have half an hour to spare) and then hit the link to learn what you’re listening to.

Kidhack - Live at Nightlife, CAoS, July 29th OhTen!

This week our podcast is a LIVE performance by Future Universal’s DJ KidHack from California Academy of Science’s Nightlife event (at which I had the great fortune to play again the other week) and it is a whopper of Tropical Bass delight.

What is “Tropical Bass” you ask? Why, how fortunate it is for the uninitiated that we have such an excellent example RIGHT HERE. Nocturnal, misty, and tribal, be warned that it’ll probably give your spirit panther boners.

If you dig the sweaty vibes and don’t mind the mosquitos, check out KidHack’s home on these here internets for tons more music.

A big whassup from Brazil my peoples! I’ve been traveling for a little over a month now (well, if you don’t count the year I was living in La Paz as “traveling”) and have a major itching to share some dope new music with all of you. Expect a bunch of posts coming up, which could possibly include any of the following:

  • The new Holy Fuck
  • The new Tobacco
  • Wu-Tang Clan vs. The Beatles (It’s good!  Really!)
  • The new RJD2

See I always stock up on new music before a long trip, especially if I’m traveling by myself.  I’m never alone if my fav artists are keeping me company (^-^)v  I’m at the point now where I’ve giving this new batch of music a good listening to, and there’s one album I keep coming back to, over and over: Lazerproof.  I just can’t get enough.

DJ Cor - A Dip in the Deep End (2000)

deepend

And now for something completely different.

Thanks to the new blood here on the Beatery, we’ve experienced a recent influx of some great progressive and drum and bass music. And while it’s a wonderful and refreshing change of pace, it has also has left me itching to get some good ol’ house music up here. Enough so that I went back and dug up a old set that even I hadn’t heard in nearly a decade.

I recorded this one while living in the deep house epicenter known as San Jose. It’s just a casual swim through some waters I don’t normally tread. I just wanted to get a few songs out of my system that I couldn’t fit anywhere else, and then I didn’t really circulate the mix to anyone. I suppose you could call this a DJ Cor rarity. It’s fun to hear it again. Really marks a moment in my early DJ “career.”
