Hey hey hey! It’s podcast time once again and this week a local friend of the Beatery is gracing us with his presence. SF superstar-in-the-making DJ KidHack recently scored a major coup recently by landing a slot in the Subsonic Tent at this year’s (always) epic BFD festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Sharing the stage with great artists like Wolfgang Gartner, Blaqk Audio, and Innerpartysystem (among many others), KidHack dropped a slammin’ set of Dubstep, Drumstep, DnB, and just really some sick ass bass pounders. He’s generously allowed us to podcast it and we certainly aren’t going to pass that up!
Peep photos from the event and a tracklist below the jump. Download the mix from the Soundcloud player, KidHack’s website, or why not subscribe to our very own iTunes Podcast!?
If you love this and just need, need to hear more, check out KidHack’s SF collective Future Universal on Facebook. They have a pretty happening page going over there right now.

Drumstep. Yeah, its a thing.
Guess it’s about time for a new “-step” to emerge. If you haven’t heard the rumblings, Drumstep is to Drum N Bass what Dubstep is to Breaks - heavy and half-time. Drumstep is enough of a production style that it has registered on the Beatport charts as a theme, and it’s listed on Wikipedia as a subgenre of Drum n’ bass, but it’s hard to know whether it is unique enough to take hold and grow into a defined style. While Dubstep’s 65-70bpm plod felt at least sort of original (if not obnoxiously so to some), Drumstep hovers higher in the 85-95bpm range, which puts it a lot closer to Hip-Hop in head nod-ability.
I decided to explore it a bit to make up my own mind, and the result is this here podcast. Even though at the moment a lot of Drumstep tracks sound to me like good ol’ DnB songs that got stuck in a breakdown, we do love our labels here in EDM-land so we might as well just stop quibbling over names and enjoy bangin’ tracks right?
Right.

San Francisco/Seattle-based production duo Blue Sky Black Death just dropped a new album full of lush, instrumental beats and chilled grooves. I could totally get down to this on a lazy Saturday afternoon, especially now that it’s warming up and summer is on the way. In the meantime though, it’s summer in my head whenever this is on! Great for fans of Hudson Mohawke, Pretty Lights, RJD2, Boards of Canada, Washed Out, and Bonobo.
