Hey hey hey! It’s podcast time once again and this week a local friend of the Beatery is gracing us with his presence. SF superstar-in-the-making DJ KidHack recently scored a major coup recently by landing a slot in the Subsonic Tent at this year’s (always) epic BFD festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Sharing the stage with great artists like Wolfgang Gartner, Blaqk Audio, and Innerpartysystem (among many others), KidHack dropped a slammin’ set of Dubstep, Drumstep, DnB, and just really some sick ass bass pounders. He’s generously allowed us to podcast it and we certainly aren’t going to pass that up!

Peep photos from the event and a tracklist below the jump. Download the mix from the Soundcloud player, KidHack’s website, or why not subscribe to our very own iTunes Podcast!?

If you love this and just need, need to hear more, check out KidHack’s SF collective Future Universal on Facebook. They have a pretty happening page going over there right now.

This week we’ve got a guest mix from multitalented SF local Reza Ebrahimi, better known to the musical world as DIRTYHERTZ. In addition to his crazy rad production and engineering skills, he’s also a killer DJ, so we’re stoked to have a mix from him!. Here’s what he has to say:

This mix is more on my POP side. I love vocals as long as it doesn’t sound cheesy. It brings the human element into the track and it communicates in a different way since its a language we all speak and undrestand.

The selection here are tracks that I have been playing for the last few years and don’t seem to be getting tiered of them. I would like to share many more with you but POP2 on its way.

Enjoy

Lore Borealis - Vacation

Drum n' Bass, Guest DJs4 Comments

vacation

My sister and BluDream production collaborator has become quite the little magician at brewing up sweet Drum n Bass DJ sets as well under the title of Lore Borealis.
This mix is a crazy ride through future funk, hyperdrive pop, and some serious ass liquid. Here’s what she has to say:

Weather’s getting nice, eh? May Day and Cinco de Mayo have had their fun with us and the long summer days stretch ahead, budding with possibility. The world’s our oyster. Kinda makes you wanna get away for a while, don’t it? Me too. Where ya headed? Cabin in the woods? Tropical Paradise (TM)? Big Desert Party, perhaps? So, in the meantime, while you’re suck there in that chair, be it car or office, planning and waitin’, come away on a little vitual vaca with me. Don’t worry, the trip won’t be too long, you’ll be back in time for lunch. But I packed you a nice bass sandwich just in case.

If you dig what you’re hearing, Lore is going to be throwing down the serious grooves at local DnB hodown Shelter (at Underground SF on Haight St) this coming Tuesday, so show up and rock!

It’s been nearly a year since we last heard from our good friend Brent Northey here on the Beatery, so today I’m pleased to bring you a super-sized funky, laid back set to groove us into the weekend. The cover image baffles me though. It must have some significance. Care to enlighten us, Brent? - cor

I have been mixing house and downtempo for years but this mix is different. It combines funk and midtempo with with some spaced out sounds. This mix was performed live at Mars Bar in San Francisco CA. Special thanks to Mark Sires a.k.a unk’l funk’l for the opportunity. - Brent

This week our podcast is a LIVE performance by Future Universal’s DJ KidHack from California Academy of Science’s Nightlife event (at which I had the great fortune to play again the other week) and it is a whopper of Tropical Bass delight.

What is “Tropical Bass” you ask? Why, how fortunate it is for the uninitiated that we have such an excellent example RIGHT HERE. Nocturnal, misty, and tribal, be warned that it’ll probably give your spirit panther boners.

If you dig the sweaty vibes and don’t mind the mosquitos, check out KidHack’s home on these here internets for tons more music.
