Hey hey hey! It’s podcast time once again and this week a local friend of the Beatery is gracing us with his presence. SF superstar-in-the-making DJ KidHack recently scored a major coup recently by landing a slot in the Subsonic Tent at this year’s (always) epic BFD festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Sharing the stage with great artists like Wolfgang Gartner, Blaqk Audio, and Innerpartysystem (among many others), KidHack dropped a slammin’ set of Dubstep, Drumstep, DnB, and just really some sick ass bass pounders. He’s generously allowed us to podcast it and we certainly aren’t going to pass that up!

Peep photos from the event and a tracklist below the jump. Download the mix from the Soundcloud player, KidHack’s website, or why not subscribe to our very own iTunes Podcast!?

If you love this and just need, need to hear more, check out KidHack’s SF collective Future Universal on Facebook. They have a pretty happening page going over there right now.

Unless you’ve been living on a different planet and it takes too long for radio waves from Earth to reach you, you’ve probably heard Deadmau5’s huge smash track “Ghosts n Stuff”. There were a number of good remixes that came out for it, and there are those out there who wish they could play them all. Well now you can, or at least two simultaneous.

My friend Means+Function alerted me to a fabulous mashup of the original and SubFocus’ DnB remix by Australian DJ DiiSTORTiiON, who added touch of Fatboy Slim for some spice, and blended it all together into a tasty stew.

And damn is it tasty, and interesting to have the style switch in the middle. It’s like an Indian burrito - taqueria on the outside, but then CHICKEN TIKKA FTW! in the inside.

Here it is:

Ghosts n Stuff - Deadmau5 (Elite Force vs Sub Focus) DiiSTORTiiON edit

He’s got some other cool mashups as well on his soundcloud page, so give a listen!

Rawthang - Unity/Netrunner

I always thought Norweigians were pleasant, mild mannered folk, but if you listen to the music of production duo Rawthang, they’re fulla some serious fuel too.

This is a DnB release I stubled upon years ago when it was first released on Orgone Records (a sublabel of previously covered DJ Dara’s Breakbeat Science powerhouse), and I haven’t been able to forget it since.

Both cuts are pretty driving, wih some searing production work.
Unity is 100 percent full on ravey, with a nu-Hoover inspired lead and some piano work that could find it’s way into a Happy Hardcore tune…minus the happy!
B-side Netrunner (my fave) is full on cyberpunk - deep wet-as-frack bass stabs, and skittter lines to make you feel like you’re INSIDE THE MACHINE…

Check em out:

Netrunner

Sadly, Rawthang have almost NO internet presence, but you can find their other releases listed on their discography. Some may have been vinyl-only, as I believe this one is too - so these are rare gems!

DJ Dara - Beats 97

dara

DJ Dara (né Darragh Guilfoyle) should be a familiar name to anyone who’s been into DnB for a while. Originally from Ireland, he emigrated to New York just as the beats were starting to roll, and after making a name for himself in the emerging arena of jungle/drum’n'bass, he started one of the genre’s seminal labels and record shops — Breakbeat Science. Through the label and his own productions and DJ sets, he’s been a pioneer and essential element in the development of DnB as we know it today.

And holy carp, here’s a digitized version of an old mixtape of his from 1997! In some ways it’s crazy old school, but it really showcases Dara as a visionary as well, because it still sounds fresh and solid. And we got both sides of the tape here for ya!

So for those who enjoy a bit of roll n skitter…here we go:
