japan-summer

I came back last week from a month long trip in Korea & Japan to the nicest San Francisco Bay Area weather you could possibly imagine. It was so beautiful even oblivious, indifferent and inscrutable God passing through would be moved to shed a tear of joy. We couldn’t possible ask for better weather to star off the summer season.

And on that note, here are a few tracks that bottle up this fabulous summer vibe, to be enjoyed over the long hot days and warm nights to come.

Good vibes mash-up supreme from GRiZ:

GRiZ - “You Got To Change”

Speaking of mashups, I’ve gotta include this Fugees/Kool & The Gang jam by DJ Twister. I’ve been playing this almost every week since last year but haven’t shared it yet with you Beatery Faithful yet!

DJ Twister - “Feel-Good-La”

While we’re getting down on the old-school tip we’ve got to swing through the best MJ remix to drop in 2012:

Michael Jackson - “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” - Gigamesh Remix Dub Edit

Gigamesh also remixed James Curd earlier this year in a track that’s sure to end up on my follow-up set to indi-tronic.

James Curd - “Guide Me” - Gigamesh Remix

I don’t know much about “HÔHME” except that he’s from New York, lots of people comment on his tracks on soundcloud, and he blew my mind with this electro-progressive mashup: “Eagle Eyes”.

HÔHME - “Eagle Eyes” - Kaskade vs. Sander Van Doorn vs. Adrian Lux vs. Mindy Gledhill

the-comeback

Hello Beatery faithful! I know we’ve been in an epic dry spell around these parts (I haven’t posted since Thanksgiving? Really??), and I apologize. There are real world reasons for that: huge independent web project (I built this!); babies; my recent two month work/holiday to Bolivia & Brazil; etc… but honestly the biggest reason for my personal hiatus was probably my “little hater”.

I’ll let Jay Smooth explain:

Now that I’m back from SA and done with the epic web project it’s time to slay the little hater and get back to posting more tracks, mixes, videos and the general new hotness!

Wait, did someone say new hottness?? It just so happens that I’ve got some new electro-hottness right here! It’s good to be back.

New Hottness

New Indi-Hottness from power house group Foster The People.

Foster The People - “Don’t Stop” - TheFatRat Remix

New Genre Defying Hottness: It’s electro house! No, It’s French house… wait no it’s trance!

PrototypeRaptor - “Drive Hard”

New Hlectro Eouse Hottness from one of 2011’s hottest new artists Mord Fustang.

Mord Fustang - “We Are Now Connected” - Buy it on Beatport!

New Mid Tempo Hottness from my personal musical heart throb, Dillon Francis.

Dillon Francis - “IDGAFOS 2.0″

1. If you haven’t noticed we’ve been hacked. No, it wasn’t our idea to have unsightly block of adds down there on the bottom of the page. I’ll get that cleared up soon.

2. I have a bunch of podcasts lined up! Be sure to subscribe right here to get them delivered straight to your itunes.

3. I’m excited to announce we’ve got a new blogger joining our Beatery crew! More details to come.

4. As always, we love hearing from you! If you’re diggin the music please take a minute to let us know about it (a comment, a facebook like, stars… there are so many ways!). It helps all of us keep our Little Haters at bay.

Holy $#!†, New Justice!

Oh yes. It’s finally here. That new Justice album you’ve been waiting on for damn near five years has arrived. And yes, it’s good. Sure, that electro/rock & roll fusion isn’t as groundbreaking as it was when Cross, er, crossed-over and took both the dance and indie scenes by storm in 2007, but now the sound is pleasantly familiar and listening to Audio, Video, Disco feels like catching up with an old friend. It’s mellower than you remember, not as edgy or dancey as its predecessor, but the Justice you love is still there. You heard the first single Civilization way back in April, so you know what to expect, but here are a few more previews, as if you needed convincing.

As Heard on TV: Justice - Civilization

Three words: Justice. Is. Back!

A full four years after dropping their landmark debut album “†” the french house duo is back with “Civilization”, their first single off new album “Nebulae” that’s set to be released later this year. And I do have to say, it’s a beast. From those first four stabs you know it’s on. “Civilization” is one of those rare “next level” tracks where an artist takes their already successful formula and pushes it to even greater heights. Think Fincher with “The Social Network”, or the exact opposite of whatever the hell it is that M. Night Shyamalan has been doing since “The Sixth Sense”.

As could be expected Adidas snapped it up and got David Beckham to run around cones and up and down some stairs to Civilization’s chugging, deliciously grungy beat. If the rest of the songs off Nebulae are this good could we be looking at the best house album ever? Hummm…

800-larkin

I have very exciting news: We are on the brink of landing a weekly happy hour gig Fridays at 800 Larkin lounge! I’ll tell you all the details once it becomes official but the last hurtle to clear is a “get to know you” set the owners asked me to play tomorrow, Friday 3/11, at 10 pm.

So I want to pack the place. It would be awesome if you brilliant reads, friends and fellow DJs could roll out, get some cheep drinks, rock out my (hopefully) amazing set and kick your weekend off right!

To sweeten the deal I’ll be giving out some free drinks! Below are some hot new tracks I just got that I’ll drop tomorrow. When you hear one, just come up on up to the decks and say something like: “Hey, this is one of those track form your blog!” and BOOM, free drink! You don’t even have to remember the names (hell, even I can’t remember the names of all these tracks).

See you tomorrow night!

DJ Jay
