Man, has it already been two weeks? Jeezus. We’re still all riding on the high from our epic throwdown for NYE, and it certainly shows no signs of diminishing in excitement anytime soon.

(And why should it? You didn’t hear this from me (sssh!), but we’re gonna be parlaying that vibe into more parties in 2011 to bring you even more slices of pure live awesome this year…)

It was epic in many senses of the word, and I for one had a smashing good time with all’yall - got to hang with awesome folks, drink copious amounts of bubbly boozy stuff, and party like it’s um…2011! But far and above my favorite part was connecting with all our friends and partygoers in the best way I know how — through some serious musical flow.

Originally I was actually planning on playing a bit more housey and low key, but the vibe was there are I was feeling a bit fierce so I focused around some of the more stabby stompy progressive I’ve been finding lately, tying it together with some sweet vocals and a bit of melodic goodness. There’s even a new 2011 remix of Mike Koglin’s classic “The Silence” DM remake in there!

The intention was to put it out there that this year is gonna be full of passion, dancing, and solid slam…I think I got there - see what you think…

And here we go with producer number 7 in our epic battle to the bass laden throne for our annual producer spinoff - So You Think You Can Bump 2010! Check out all the nominees here

For this new entry into the SYTYCB2010 championship, another dutchman, but with quite a different sound, Rafael Frost.

Frost combines elements of electro, glitchy shuffled techno, and a whole lotta hammer to the trance flow and mixes them up maëlstrom of sound that is completely enveloping and just. so. massive! The scale of them seems completely different than the modern trance trend towards more housey beats - his are beasts just waiting to be let out…in a huge arena!

Rafael has done some great stuff this year - enough to get him selected by Ferry Corsten as his favorite producer of 2010.

Let’s see a sampling of what he can slam us with…

Hola! Damn. It’s already getting near the middle of December and I’m totally not even used to it being 2010 yet!
Here comes the change of decade…

But man, what a year we’ve had for dance music. Some amazing tunes have been released this year in all walks and genres…

I got to throw some of those released in the Progressive/Trance genres together a week ago for friend, fellow producer, and bay area bad boy Means+Function on his monthly net radio broadcast Syncopation.

The result is a blend of textures - light and dark, melodic and techy, but all driving.
Even got a tiny touch of some uplifting psy!

Here’s my guestmix, direct from SoundCloud:

Editor’s note: this is the third in our “So You Think You Can BUMP!? 2010″ series, in which we count down the present our fav producers of the year and let you make the call on who’s the best. Check out all the nominees here!

Leon Bolier is already a legend in the scene.
As one of the leaders of the new breed of trance, it’s nearly impossible to speak of the state of modern trance/progressive without this guy’s name coming up. And unsurprisingly, he’s Dutch ^_^.

Known for his genre-bending techy grooves, he’s also classically trained (can play the keys like a mofo) and has a killer ability to pair gripping melodies and progressions with some seriously fierce firepower.

Let’s see what he can throw our way…

Mmm…sake.
It’s starting to get cold here in Tokyo, and as the leaves turn and the wind blows, there ain’t nothing like some solid rice wine to take the chill off. If you want that immediate heat go for hot sake in an astukan, or go room temp but feel the fire in your bones and the caress on your pallet of a high end daiginjo - it don’t get better than that.

Of couse, alcohol is fuel, and being the dancefloor fools that we are here at the Beatery, it’s fuel to dance.
And passing on that fuel is our mission here, so in the recent tradition of Matt and Cor’s 5-new-tunes format, I present to you a quintuplet of our finest brews from the progressive and trance tinged basements of Setagaya-ku…and what’s really interesting is there’s quite a few old school sounds coming back. It’s new stuff, but the latter half has flavor that’d rock it like it’s 1999 (but not like Prince).

A full sampling from some fine housey tinged progressive to some full on in your face trance cuts - some of the latest distilled beverages to grace the lips of dancers round the world…
