Matt’s Corner of the Kitchen
I’ve had many DJ monikers in his time behind the decks, but these days you will generally find me under the banner of Hægen, a bastardization of my real last name resulting from it’s confusing similarity to Hegenburger Road in Oakland near where I grew up (where, coincidentally, many of the now-infamous Oakland warehouse raves took place in the 1990’s).
I pretty much like anything that has good hooks and depth of sound, stuff that gets in your head AND your gut, which is probably clear from the range of music covered in my posts and mixes below. As a DJ, my gig prep method is to visualize the party space and think about what would feel natural in those surroundings, which means you are not likely to hear the same set from me twice, and that the bricks/steel/basement/fishtanks/whatever are likely to have as much a say in the beats on blast as you do!
