Editor’s note: this is the third in our “So You Think You Can BUMP!? 2010″ series, in which we count down the present our fav producers of the year and let you make the call on who’s the best. Check out all the nominees here!

Leon Bolier is already a legend in the scene.
As one of the leaders of the new breed of trance, it’s nearly impossible to speak of the state of modern trance/progressive without this guy’s name coming up. And unsurprisingly, he’s Dutch ^_^.

Known for his genre-bending techy grooves, he’s also classically trained (can play the keys like a mofo) and has a killer ability to pair gripping melodies and progressions with some seriously fierce firepower.

Let’s see what he can throw our way…

This year he’s been banging it out more than ever, with a slew of original productions and remixes under his belt rocking the airwaves. But the real crown has been his second artist Album - Phantasma:

A crazy melange of different textures in Leon’s wide sonic palette, Phantasma ranges from downtempo to deep and tech-housey flavors, to floor busting full-on tunes (and he couldn’t just do it in a short play EP — Phantasma has 25 tracks and spans two CDs!)

Let’s sample a few of his tasty morsels…

Avalanche

This is some serious stuff here - a housey groove offset by an almost Umek-like bassline with some evil stabs to match…and brings it home with some syncopated goodness and SOLID groove skills.
Not what you expected from a trance artist, eh?

Creek

Deep, sultry, and moody, this tune is more akin to techy deep house than traditional trance.
Tons of atmosphere and groove for days…almost like a combo of Sasha’s Airdrawn dagger and Pig and Dan…

2099

This collaboration with fellow luminary Marcus Schossow keeps the tech but pairs it with some moving and grooving textures to take it full on into a massive-and-emotional-but-odd lead line for a truly futuristic finish.

Shimamoto

Not to leave the melodic fans behind, Leon drives it home with a lush almost world-music inspired feel including a bit of shakuhachi goodness even, for plenty of texture and color…

Or to listen to all of these at once…

PLAY ALL

Also check out the rest of the fantastic cuts on Phantasma on iTunes, Audiojelly, and elsewhere (avoid Beatport tho - they charge too much!).

Leon is one of the strongest voices in the dance music scene today, but there can be only one winner for SYTYCB2010!
What do you think? Make yourself heard, and may the best producer win!

Official voting happens at the end of the month, but give Leon some star ratings below to show your support!

“Refreshing” is exactly right. Great post,Boilers’ beats remind me of what I mis from quality “progressive” trance. Solid beats, sweet and eclectic melodies, and funky transitions.
