SYTYCB - Netsky
Drum n' Bass, So You Think You Can BUMP?
OK guys, it’s time for the first full-on DnB artist entry into our annual producer contest - So You Think You Can Bump 2010, so grab your caps and shuffle your steps for Netsky!
Unknown until about two years ago, Belgian Drum n Bass producer Netsky has been making splashes in a big way in 2010. Besides a rash of excellent singles, he’s been signed to London Elektricity’s famed Hospital Records (Makers of “Sick Music” ^_^), done serious high profile remix work, and released a full album of solid cuts on Hospital.
Supported by nearly all the big names in the scene, including Friction, Hype and Fabio, Netsky has earned a nomination as “Best Upcoming Producer” — within just months of his first release. His sound blends the melodics, funk, and driving beats into an amazing melange that easily ranges from laidback to pounding and back again. He’s been a big pusher of some of the more “electro”-y LFO’ed DnB synth sounds, but he often pairs them with soul vocals that just make you want to smile and get lost in the rhythm.
Let’s check out a couple of prime cuts by Netsky…
Pirate Bay
Cheeky internet reference!!1!lulz.
This is a cyberfunk groove with groovy growl and soulful male vocals to inspire the night.
Actually, it’s almost a bit of a nod to Rawthang’s Netrunner, in a funkier way…
Iron Heart
Almost progressive house like pads and chords in the beginning give way to a pitchbent electro groove that brings the atmosphere and the funk all in one! Drops of synth melody bliss punctuate the flow…
Come Back Home
Don’t let the gentle soul/rnb beauty in the beginning fool ya - this is a fueled trip of fire.
You know how even in some of the rollercoasters in Disneyland they have those little gentle sections with the happy animals, and then BOOM rush? Yeah this is like that.
Your Way
Now on the lighter end of the spectrum, a DnB riddum for a sunny day.
With female vocals and a creamy, easy groove, you can almost feel the grass between your toes and the sunlight on your face as you dance barefoot in the park.
And of course, where would we be without a remix included?
Here’s Netsky’s take on heavyweight Pendulum’s sound:
Pendulum - Witchcraft (Netsky remix)
Epic and trancey, Netsky’s remix adds both emotion and wobble to this excellent tune.
And of course, for an all in one package…
PLAY ALL
If you dig Netsky’s sound, give him some stars here for support!
We’ll have formal voting when we do our wrap up when all the entries are in at the end of the SYTYCB2010 series!
Also check out Netsky’s official website for more material - this guy rocks!

So they still make Drum & Bass?!?? Who knew? This is awesome Derek! With all this dubstep everywhere it’s nice to here those extra drum hits again.
Quality! “Come back home” is my top pick from this set, but it is just good to hear some new stuff. Thx Derek
Thanks! Gotta have a little 170bpm action every once in a while, ya know?
these are all truly sick. love it! and i also love your song descriptions derek
Oh damn, I’m still on the first track and I can barely halt my urge for motion enough to type this. Thanks for sharing, Derek, this reminds me of why I love drum and bass music
@b oh yes indeed. I love writing those too ^_^!
@neutronium it’s all about the rush. dnb is amazing for continuing to provide a crazy variety of textures/sounds and still bring the fire!
wow, somehow I missed this post when it came out. I never really listened to D’n'B but I liiiiike it! All the tracks were great! Somehow punchy and melodic at the same time, even moody. Great stuff, thanks!
