Back in the day I used to got raves all the time and dance my ass of to these glorious sets of cybertrance music. After every one I hoped and prayed that it was being recorded so I could take that feeling with, just have the ability to re-capture that vibe whenever I wanted. But of course they never were recorded. Or if they were the DJ never bothered to mater it, make it into a tape and release to the general public. And eventually I got used to the idea that these awesome seta of music were just one time, transitory events to be enjoyed in the moment, but not able to be captured, stored, and re-created on demand.

Well, I am sooo happy to share with you one shining exception. As I mentioned in my last podcast this year DJ Dan played the best set I’ve ever heard on the playa, burn night, 12 am at Root Society’s ginormous wall of light and sound (aka Tower of Babel). Instead of being lost the the fading recesses of our collective memories we can now re-live every pounding beat of this fantastic set as DJ Dan just released it as a podcast! Hark! the Herald Angels sings! Hallelujah!!

While it does sound a bit strange coming out of computer speakers instead of three story tower of sound, I can still fell the energy of Burning Man seeping through… and the dust. Enjoy!

Have you ever been to Burning Man?  Cor and I have been rocking Black Rock City* (or have been being rocked by BRC may be more appropriate) on and off over the last ten years since we helped found the theme camp** Pancake Playhouse. Burning Man is a festival like no other, if only because it can be so many different things simultaneously, depending on what any one of the 45,000 participants wants their experience to be.

BUUUUUUUUUURNIIIIIIIIIIING MAAAAAAAN! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Are you excited? I fucking am. I’m posting this podcast a day early so you can download it in time for your pilgrimage to the playa, should you need more driving music. I originally set out to make this mix five hours long, to last the entire trip from San Francisco to Black Rock City, but when I finished selecting tracks and mixing them together, well, it turned out to be just forty five minutes. Strange.

I gotta say, this summer feels like it’s been the longest in recent memory, and unfortch, it’s also been a bit of a dry spell for new music. Since I didn’t exactly have a grip of new tracks to share with you, I’ve just mixed together some of the songs I’ve been spinning live this summer that always seem to get a good crowd reaction. What this means for Beatery regulars is that a large percentage of this mix is gonna sound a bit familiar. Just consider it a ‘Greatest Hits’ set (or summer reruns, if you’re one of those ‘glass is half-empty’ people.)

Okay, now that I’ve talked myself down, it’s time to talk myself back up by telling you all to come out to hear me spin on the playa! I’ve got two gigs thus far, both at the beginning of the week, so if you’re gonna be out there early, come to the following locations to dance your dusty ass off!

Sunday 8/30 - 10:00pm-11:00pm @ the Duck Pond (9:00 & DNA)

Tuesday 9/01 - Midnight-1:30am @ Conexus (3:00 & Hominid)

And of course, in case anyone reading this doesn’t already know, the Pancake Playhouse (our camp) will be in the 9:00 keyhole once again this year. Anyone looking for a hot breakfast, some soothing soft rock, or (ahem) an awesome electro/breaks DJ to rock your playa party in a chef outfit… come on by!
