If you haven’t heard, the man, the mouse, the legend: Deadmau5 is bringing his hot new show to San Francisco! Unveiled at Coachella this year and incorporated into MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards last month*, Deadmau5’s new live set-up is a Daft Punk rivaling semi-cube of visual wizardry, so fully automated and synced to the mau5’s pounding beats that not only will it blow your mind, but it will sear your eyes rite out their sockets before your head fully explodes. At least that what my friend said happened to a guy when he saw the show…
* A great edited montage of all Deadmau5’s featured time on the VMAs can be found here (they disabled embedding). There are some sick remixes he did of a few pop songs that I hope eventually they see the light of day. But damn, Deamau5 “playing” the trashiest, most pop-ified award show there is? How should we feel about this? Hyped that he’s getting super huge and keeping Electro in the mainstream (he did drop a lot of his bangers) or dismayed that in his relentless quest to into the hearts, and wallets, of the masses he may loose the edge off his music? Really, I want to know what you think.
5eriously though, by all accounts this new Deadmau5 live show is not to be missed (a little video tease after the jump); and for all of us here in the Bay area we have a golden opportunity to check it out first hand. Deadmau5 will be performing live at the Treasure Island Music Festival THIS SATURDAY!
So to get us all in the mood, here’s some new mau5 track5:

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that our man Wolfgang Gartner has been tearing it up recently with a number of big room crowd-pleasers. And like so many of us, he’s been getting by with a little help from his friends. For today’s beat du jour we’re serving Wolfgang Duet, prepared two ways…
Wolfgang Gartner & Deadmau5 - Animal Rights
Deadmau5 brings his trademark stompy electro sound to this one. With him involved you know it’s fun and immediately catchy, if a tad predictable. Still, if it ain’t broken…
Wolfgang Gartner & Mark Knight - Conscindo
Progressive producer Mark Knight lends a hand here resulting in a driving, techy track that culminates in a huge, trancey arms-in-the-air breakdown.
Well folks, after a year year of living down here I’m on my way out of Bolivia. After some travels to Argentina and Brazil I’ll be back in the Bay around mid August. I just can not believe a year has gone by already, they just seem to fly by these days. And maybe not coincidentally this year has been chalk full of fantastic new experiences: new language, new food, new friends, new culture, a new love, new job, and maybe most relevant here, new music.
In “Bolivi’n It Up”* I tried to combine the music I’ve been playing down here, more easily accessible edm and pop-remixes, with the general vibe of living in La Paz: fast paced, energetic, a bit dirty and a lot of fun! We start of in a Bolivian bus station and just let the vibe flow from there. I thinks it’s a healthy fusion of styles, not veering too far into pop nor too deep into hard electro, and many of the tracks are pulled straight from my sets over the past year.
* Mad props out to my homie Bun Chan in Japan for inspiring that title. When are we gonna get you on the podcast Bun Chan??
If you enjoy the set half as much as I’ve enjoyed living in Bolivia I’ll have done something rite. Thanks for listening, and all my peoples in the Bay, I’ll see you soon!
Ahora, tengo esos nuevos canciones. Escuchalas y elige tu favorita. Voy a tocar el gañador si ó si pero hay una cosa más… Si tu escuchas alguna de esas canciones cuando estoy tocando me avisas y voy a darte un premio! Estás confundido? Aquí es un ejemplo:
Vos: “Oje Jay! Reconozco esa canción de tu blog!”
Yo: “Ahh si! Aqui está tu premio! Gracias por escuchar.”
Entiendes? Bien! Nos vemos el viernes. Abajo están las canciones. No te olvidas elegir tu favorito!

Whassup my peoples? I’m just letting all my homies down here in Bolivia know that I’ll be playing at a club this Friday. But fear not if you can’t make it to La Paz to see me. If all goes well I’ll record this set and use it for a podcast! Unfortunately as I’m playing from 9:00 - 9:45 pm it might not be the livest set ever, but we’ll see what we can do.
Anyway, I wanted to throw some songs out here for you guys to check out and give me some feedback on. I’ve been grooving on these for a while but haven’t yet had the chance to drop a single one live. Take a minute to listen and vote for your fav, I’ll include the winner in the set fo sho:
Ahhh Bob Sinclar. He’s like the Timbaland of Latin America. Throw in Mano Chao and a dash Shabba Ranks and you got a hot, steamy… dance floor banger! What, where did you think I was going with that?
Our top 5 SYTYCB artist is back with a brand new electro house banger, this one straight from the number one slot on the Beatport sales charts. Note to Deadmau5: I know you make these songs with relative ease, I know you think most of the DJs that play your tracks are hacks, but come on, just a little effort naming would go a long way in making you look not like such a douche. Thanks.
This songs hits. Beatery favorite Lazy Rich just gets sick with Fatboy Slim’s classic. If it wins it might be just me and the bar tender, but I don’t care I’ll get my groove on anyway. Can’t help but shake it to this one.
Hey so did you get the memo about this track being “The Official Trance Energy Anthem” of 2010?? Well in case you’ve been living under a rock I just wanted to let you know. ‘Cause, I don’t want you to be embarrassed or anything next time you go to a party and all your friends are talking about “The Official Trance Energy Anthem” and you kind of nod, half smile and stare at the floor in hopes that no one figures out that you’re the ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD that doesn’t know what the official “The Official Trance Energy Anthem” is! It’s like not knowing about gum. Or the number two. I hear Obama is even gonna make Sadner Van Doorn his “Offical Trance Energy Czar”… kidding aside tho, I do really like the track and we need some trance representation.
We’re back with another addition “Bumping Heads”, our feature where we pit two SYTYCB artists against each other. This week we’ve got Deadmau5 again, but instead of getting remixed he’s taking on what is quite possibly the best progressive house song OF ALL TIME!! Is he up to the task? I personally think there is no touching the original, though that fact that it’s 11 minutes long is a bit of a downer. Deadmau5 does tighten it up some and give it a bit more bump for the clubs, but at the end of the day it’s Xpander. Remix Sasha at your own risk.
Take a listen and let us know what you think. Is the electro make-over exactly what Xpander needed? As an extra bonus the original is the 2009 re-mastered version of Xpander @ 320 kbps for your mp3 collections.
