BCee - Consumed

Well, it’s no secret that I loove liquid DnB - that sweet combination of deep, trancey, epic vibes set to the pounding and skittering rhythms.

Here’s a brief pick me up for your Monday that comes from that place.
This is one of the tunes my sis played out at the campout last month for her dawn set.

Nothing like a liquid dawn…

Heya Beatery rockers -

Happy Monday (although it’s already Tuesday here in Tokyo).

So I mentioned how my sister was awesome right?

Anyways, together we’ve been working on a bit of DnB tunage on the side, and we made our first tune a while back now.
We’d been sitting on it a while but eventually decided to let it out to the world to see what you all thought!

It’s a pretty dirty little ride through some textural landscapes and flowing hyperfunk bells.

Hope you guys dig!

A couple days ago, friend of the Beatery and all around killer dude Hernan tweeted me a dare.
He said:

Why doesn’t someone make a song from the awesome first five seconds of “Play That Funky Music White Boy?

It was already super late on a “school” night, but I couldn’t ignore this challenge ^_^.
Being normally a trance producer this is pretty far out of my range, but as it so happens I’ve also been working on a bit of Drum N Bass with my sister under the alias Bludream.
I set to work finding a sample online then an hour later came up with this:

Bludream - Funky Music Demo
Note: this isn’t mixed at all, so certain levels may be off - for one it needs more bass…

It’s pretty rough around the edges, and not at all complete (needs alot more percussion!), but I think it’s pretty good for an hour’s work.

In fact, it might be worth developing into a full-on DnB tune!

What do you think? Should I make this track a reality?

SYTYCB - Netsky

OK guys, it’s time for the first full-on DnB artist entry into our annual producer contest - So You Think You Can Bump 2010, so grab your caps and shuffle your steps for Netsky!

Unknown until about two years ago, Belgian Drum n Bass producer Netsky has been making splashes in a big way in 2010. Besides a rash of excellent singles, he’s been signed to London Elektricity’s famed Hospital Records (Makers of “Sick Music” ^_^), done serious high profile remix work, and released a full album of solid cuts on Hospital.

Supported by nearly all the big names in the scene, including Friction, Hype and Fabio, Netsky has earned a nomination as “Best Upcoming Producer” — within just months of his first release. His sound blends the melodics, funk, and driving beats into an amazing melange that easily ranges from laidback to pounding and back again. He’s been a big pusher of some of the more “electro”-y LFO’ed DnB synth sounds, but he often pairs them with soul vocals that just make you want to smile and get lost in the rhythm.

Let’s check out a couple of prime cuts by Netsky…

Unless you’ve been living on a different planet and it takes too long for radio waves from Earth to reach you, you’ve probably heard Deadmau5’s huge smash track “Ghosts n Stuff”. There were a number of good remixes that came out for it, and there are those out there who wish they could play them all. Well now you can, or at least two simultaneous.

My friend Means+Function alerted me to a fabulous mashup of the original and SubFocus’ DnB remix by Australian DJ DiiSTORTiiON, who added touch of Fatboy Slim for some spice, and blended it all together into a tasty stew.

And damn is it tasty, and interesting to have the style switch in the middle. It’s like an Indian burrito - taqueria on the outside, but then CHICKEN TIKKA FTW! in the inside.

Here it is:

Ghosts n Stuff - Deadmau5 (Elite Force vs Sub Focus) DiiSTORTiiON edit

He’s got some other cool mashups as well on his soundcloud page, so give a listen!
